A cop must complete the police officer academy training program, and quite often a certificate in a criminal justice program is required. Candidate applying to join the police force have to pass a clean background check with their illegal work history, driving record, and credit reports, in order to ensure that all members of the cop  are upstanding members of society who will be a good fit with the community. According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s pay and Hour Division, cop qualifies to receive overtime. Under Fair Labor Standards Act laws, the police officer are eligible to receive 1 1/2 times their normal hourly rate for all time they work over 40 hours in a week. Overtime may be rewarded to compensate cop for working extra shifts, caring for police force dogs or extending their work hours by appearing in courtyard on work-related cases.
